ABOUT ENSEMBLE

The Vonička folk ensemble was founded in 1991 by Emilie and Jiří Slavík, who currently serve as its artistic and organizational directors. The dance section, which is divided into three age categories, is led by Tereza and Hugo Kielar. The music section, led by Martin Gelnar, consists of two cimbalom bands. The ensemble currently has a total of 70 members aged 5 to 20.

Vonička focuses on the dissemination and preservation of folklore traditions in the region of Těšín Silesia and Lachia. The dancers are divided into three age categories and the musicians form two dulcimer bands with typical musical instruments. Folklore material is treated in authentic and stylized form, including craft and pastoral games, songs, melodies and couple dances. The artistic directors of the ensemble are Mr. and Mrs. Emilie and Mr. Jiří Slavík, the leader of the dulcimer music is Martin Gelnar and the organizational leader and chairman of the association is Roman Gorný.

Our cimbalom band is a multiple winner in the national cimbalom band competition. In 2022, it won first place in Mikulov. This May, the national competition was also held in Mikulov, and both our small and large bands won first place in their categories. At the International Folklore Festival in Strážnice, they accompanied the winning singers in the main program of the national competition “Zazpívej Slavíčku” (Sing, Nightingale). Today, they dance and sing just for you. We believe you will enjoy Vonička.
